I'm having a lot of fun painting like this!

It was too cold in my attic for painting—the low temperatures were slowing the drying process, and my hands were freezing. Sigh... So yesterday, I decided to relocate everything to the garage, where it’s a comfortably cool 60°. Much better! 😉

Below are the two base coats for my next painting. I got some great feedback yesterday from a friend who really liked the purple painting more than the tan/green/brown one.

With that in mind, I adjusted the first base coat to be slightly lighter, landing somewhere between the tan and purple paintings in value. For this project, I’m planning to use bolder colors: Yellow/Green, Blue, Purple, and Red. Here’s my approach:

1. Get the Hex colors for each shade on the color wheel.

2. Use a CMYK percentages webpage to mix my colors precisely.

3. Print a sample of the four colors to match while mixing the primary colors.

4. Tone the canvas (Tan with a small amount of Black).

5. Add White and Black lines (let dry).

6. Apply Yellow/Green (let dry).

7. Layer Blue (let dry).

8. Add Purple (let dry).

9. Include Red (let dry).

10. Final touches with Black (let dry).

11. Finish with White.

12. Sleep on it and make any tweaks the next day. Done!

I’m really excited to dive into this today. 🎨 I'm headed out to play Disc Golf today in the snow covered, New Quarter Park!

Sorry for the glare in this shot. I'm taking the photos of these paintings while they are still laying flat with the light above reflecting of of the fresh paint. The Blue/Green toned down the Bad-Red color (IMHO), so that's a good thing. Looking at my color swatch now versus the Blue/Green paint it is dead on. The Blue/Green is the compliment to the Bad-Red. One more layer on top of the Beach Grass color to round out the painting. If Black is required the so be it! I'm noticing now that the previous background is much lighter in the photograph. That is due to the time the phot was taken and the sun was shining through the garage window. I'm done! Unless I change my mind, it will stand as is. ;)

The colors/hues in the previous shots are off in the image(s). The image above has been updated to make it appear more true to life. I'm not happy with the pink/red/orange paint the way it turned out. But, there is no going back now! 😎 The White and Black stages next will tone it down some when it's all done. The painting looks better in person!
