The King of Christmas
Here are some fun stories about Nat King Cole. One of my favorite voices of all time. So smooth and mellow. Go to the bottom and you can listen to some of his all time favorites.
The "Unforgettable" Story: The iconic song "Unforgettable" was originally recorded as an instrumental. It wasn't until years later, after his daughter Natalie Cole became a successful singer, that they decided to record a duet version. This became one of the most beloved father-daughter musical collaborations of all time.
Overcoming Racism: Nat King Cole faced significant racism throughout his career. In 1956, he was attacked by white supremacists during a performance in Alabama. This incident, along with other experiences of discrimination, highlighted the challenges faced by Black artists during the Civil Rights era.
Innovator of the Trio Format: Nat King Cole is credited with popularizing the piano trio format, consisting of piano, bass, and guitar. His trio achieved immense success, blending jazz, pop, and swing music.
Early Musical Prodigy: Cole's musical talent was evident from a young age. He started playing piano at the age of four and formed his own band while still in high school.
From Gospel to Pop: Cole's musical journey began in the church, where he sang gospel music. He later transitioned to jazz and pop, achieving immense success in both genres.
