Smooth... Creamy Goodness!

Success! The painting experiment is off the ground!

I made a trip to Home Depot today and picked up four cans of BEHR PREMIUM Urethane Alkyd Semi-Gloss Enamel Interior/Exterior Paint in White, Black, Cyan (Blue), and Yellow. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough stock for the fifth color, Magenta (Red), but that’s okay—this is just a quick trial painting.

To tweak the colors a bit, I mixed some Cyan into the Yellow to tone it down and added a touch of acrylic Red into the Cyan to warm it up. I didn’t reference my color wheel this time—I just went for it and had fun throwing paint on the canvas!

The results? Swirls, drips, and lines that are holding their shape beautifully. Using the paint stick and applying the right arm and wrist movements gave me the action I was aiming for, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out so far.

It’s not quite done yet. Tomorrow, I’ll add more black and white, but this time, I’ll use the Alkyd Enamel instead of Acrylic for consistency.

Once it’s fully cured, I’ll finish with a layer of varnish, and this piece will be ready to go! For my next project, I’m excited to get that fifth can of Magenta so I can mix up precise colors. I’m also planning to scale up to larger canvases as I continue experimenting.

Even though the colors on this piece aren’t exactly my favorite, I think it’s shaping up nicely!
