Painting for my friends!

Bob has been my go-to guy here in Williamsburg for over a year now—kind of like my partner-in-crime but with way more life experience. This guy has done it all: Coast Guard, ICU nurse, volunteer firefighter, Army National Guard, Marine—probably a superhero in disguise too, but he’s keeping that quiet!

When it comes to friendship, Bob and I have that unshakable bond. The kind where everything else takes a back seat. Friends first—no exceptions.

Recently, I’ve been diving into abstract art, and when I mentioned to Bob that I’d love to gift him a painting, he was all in. He gave me the color palette of his foyer—green and gold. Sounds simple, right? Not exactly.

Here’s the thing about painting with green and gold—it’s a bit like trying to harmonize two divas. They don’t always play nice. By the end of the painting, it was feeling way too "cool" and needed some serious "warming up." The bottom yellow had too much green and was throwing the whole vibe off. So, in the final stages, I whipped out some black lines, added a richer golden-yellow that matched his walls, and threw in my favorite “Beach Grass” tan to balance things out.

Is it my masterpiece? Nah, not even close. But it works! Maybe someday, if I’ve picked up a few more tricks, I’ll revisit it and give it a glow-up. For now, I’m still learning—figuring out tools, techniques, paint mixing, and consistency. Each piece gets faster and easier, which is awesome because I hate dragging out the process. I’m all about getting to the finished product ASAP. Who has time for boredom? Not me!
