Abstraction and the Ways of Art

Can I get any more stuffy with my titles? <insert>Laugh at your self, idiot!</insert>

I’ve been exploring abstract artwork lately, both through videos and a recent visit to the VMFA museum in Richmond. While there, I came across an incredible three-dimensional piece that captivated me (details below).

Jackson Pollock’s work has always fascinated me, especially his first "paint-throwing" abstract piece, which gained recognition in the movie "The Accountant" featuring Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick. The film was great, but the painting itself? Even better!

Inspired by his style, I’m planning to experiment with similar techniques in my attic. It’s the perfect space—plenty of room to throw down a tarp and let loose. I’ve got some canvases and a surplus of paint ready to go. While Pollock didn’t use marbles, some modern artists are incorporating them to create unique lines and abstract curves, and I’m tempted to try it. The goal is to build layers of color—starting with an underpainting, then adding complements and discordant hues for vibrancy. If I manage to create anything worthwhile, I’ll share it here. It's bound to be a fun (and messy) adventure!

A copy of the painting below was made for the movie. And if memory serves me correct, it may have looked just as good, if not even better.
